Maintenance Tips, Tricks, And Hacks

Your vehicle is a fine-tuned machine that will require plenty of routine maintenance and quick repairs throughout its life-time, but what about some of the little things, like an old bumper sticker, foggy headlights, or other tiny details? Read below to find some simple maintenance tips, tricks, and hacks.

Foggy Headlights

Over time, your headlights can become oxidized or "foggy". If this happens, normal soap and water won't clean them; you'll need something tougher: toothpaste. Yes, you read that right. Simply clean your headlight with soap and water, rinse, and air dry. Then, using whatever toothpaste you have available, apply to a damp, soft towel and firmly rub your headlight in small circles, applying more water and toothpaste when necessary. Then rinse and enjoy! Some people recommend using masking tape to tape off the area around your headlight to avoid scuffing.

Old Bumper Sticker

Perhaps you bought a pre-owned vehicle that contains some pre-applied bumper stickers or you're tired of the bumper stickers that you've placed on your vehicle and want to start over with a blank canvas. Don't let the sticker rip and leave a sticky mess, use a hair dryer and peel those stickers off with ease. Simply apply heat from the hair dryer for one to two minutes and it should easily peel right off.

If you have stickers on the inside of our vehicle or on the glass, Goo Gone and a plastic putty knife will be able to take those right off as well.

Routine Maintenance

Although not necessarily a hack or trick, having routine maintenance performed when it should be is an important tip. Such issues as tire rotations, oil changes, brake inspections, and more should be done before the recommended mileage or timeline is up. Check your owner's manual to discover when your recommendation is or contact us, here at Tonkin Subaru in The Dalles OR and serving Hood River, White Salmon WA, and Goldendale WA, for more information.
